Hampstead Norreys Community Shop operates a customer account facility which allows customers to make purchases easily without having to have cash or a credit card. The account is a pre-payment scheme and the terms of use are shown below. Not only can you use your account for purchases in the shop but it also permits the pre-ordering of goods either online or in the shop.

How do I open an account?

You can download an application form or collect one from the shop. Complete the details required, sign it and hand it to one or the managers or post it back to the shop. Once your application form has been received an account will be opened and an account card will be issued to you. You can then start to operate the account by making your first pre-payment.

Terms of Use

How does the ‘reverse credit’ customer account work?

This scheme allows you to place money on account with the Shop in exchange for future purchases of goods/services from the Shop.

Who can open an account?

Subject to the Shop’s approval of an application, anyone can open and operate a customer account.  If you are under 18 years old you will need a parent/guardian to open your customer account.  The Shop may at its sole discretion, acting reasonably, open or close customer account(s).

How much money can I put on account?

To open a customer account you will need to place a minimum of £10.  You will also need to top up your customer account with an amount of not less than £10.  The maximum balance you can hold on your customer account is £200.  The Shop may at its sole discretion change the sums required or allowed on your customer account.

How can I find out the balance of my customer account?

The printed receipt for each transaction will be the balance of funds remaining to be spent on goods/services.  The Shop will also be able to look on the system and advise you.

What happens if my card is lost, damaged or stolen?

If your card is lost, damaged or stolen so that it cannot be used by you, you will be required to purchase a replacement card at a cost of £1. This is a contribution towards the administrative costs of issuing a replacement card.

If your card is lost or stolen, it is your responsibility to report it to the Shop manager in writing as soon as you discover it is lost or stolen.  The Shop will then as soon as possible freeze your customer account to prevent any unauthorised use.  The Shop will only be responsible for any unauthorised use of your account after the Shop has received your written notification of your lost or stolen card, not before.  To re-active your customer account, you will need to purchase a replacement card.

If your recover the original card, please hand it in to the Shop.  The Shop will void the card.  The Shop will, if it thinks necessary, review transaction dates and times against the CCTV footage to try to discover the nature and extent of unauthorised use of a card.

Shop’s responsibilities

Subject to any liability that cannot be limited or excluded at law: the Shop’s maximum liability to you is limited to the value of the balance of your customer account at the time that any such liability arises in relation to your customer account; and the Shop will not be liable for any other loss or damage of any kind.

Under the Rules of the Association (copy available on the website), Rule 13 (d) states that ‘the Association shall not accept deposits’.  Whilst this rule remains in force, any money you place on your customer account is committed by you to be spent in the Shop.
