The premise of the Oil Purchasing Co-operative is simple: bulk buy oil to achieve the biggest discount possible.

By grouping together to buy oil, we could save somewhere between 10 -20% on our oil bills.

If you would be interested in joining the Oil Purchasing Co-operative, please email us and provide the following information:

Approximately how much oil you use each year;

When you last bought oil (month);

How big your tank is;

How often you have your boiler serviced.

The process of ordering oil is intended to work as follows:

The co-ordinator, James, will email out monthly an enquiry to see if anyone wants oil in the following two/three weeks. The minimum delivery has to be 500 litres, and we really need to get about 10,000 litres plus to make it viable for Ford Fuels, and give us the price reduction.

If you do not require oil, you do not need to reply.

Those people who require oil should contact James, and let him know how much they think they need.

James will contact them with the delivery date.

The Ford Fuels' driver will leave a delivery note stating how much oil has been delivered.

Ford Fuels will then invoice each directly, for payment within 30 days.

If the people who have had a delivery can email James with the amount they have had delivered, he will then start to track usage, so that he will only contact those people who may need oil, rather than the whole group.

Below are some tips to consider, from an OFTEC registered business

If you want to help your cash flows, why not just buy a 500 litres load as and when you need it to keep your tank reasonably topped up, say 2/3rds full at all times. This may help spread the cost of refilling tanks to the brim.

If the tank is 2/3rds full, there is less air in the tank, and thus it is more stable, both structurally and from a fire risk.

The flash point of Kerosene (burning oil) is 38 degrees Centigrade, so a cold full tank is safer than a hot empty one.
